Rose Brenner is relatively new to painting and is self-taught. As soon as she picked up a paint brush, she fell in love with painting! Her motto is, “Any day I get to paint is a good day”. She paints every day and uses vivid colors. She also paints several versions of a theme until shes exhausted the subject. Some of her recent themes are flowers in the style of Van Gogh, Lily Ponds inspired by Monet, Western scenes with red rock canyons, and Stained Glass in the style of Tiffany Lamps. She loves painting Cityscapes filled with people going about their daily routine, taxis and cars coming and going, tall buildings, and especially people with umbrellas. She’s also taken numerous workshops of well-known artists, who taught her concepts like the contrast of Light and Shadow, Composition, Nocturnes, and Edges.  Her style uses bright vivid colors and textures. She basically tells stories with paint. She paints exquisite flowers in Hyper Realism style and landscapes in Impressionism style. She’s done many bird paintings in a Minimalist style. Rose started painting when she retired 11 years ago. She planned on quilting again, but her daughter sent her a Bob Ross dvd and she got hooked on painting. She lives on top of a hill in Lawrence County and wanted to be able to paint the beauty around her. She paints every day and often says she has a thousand paintings in her head, ready to come out. She paints very quickly, often finishing a complicated scene in one or two sittings.  She often has around five paintings going on at once, letting some dry while she starts on others.  There’s a freshness involved when you paint Alla Prima (all in one sitting). You don’t get so lost in the details that you lose the essence of what you wanted to portray. Rose also paints “en plein air” which means outdoors from life.  It allows her to observe the nuances of color and light.

Rose has also dabbled in Abstract paintings, often drilling down into a photo of a flower or landscape and filling the canvas with the bright nuances. In the past eleven years she’s been painting, Rose has created a style that’s all her own. Her paintings are bright and her colors are vivid. She sells things in all price ranges; from cards to prints, as well as the paintings themselves. Her goal is to make art affordable.
